For the last 41 years, Ghadafi’s regime ruled Libya with an iron fist. Thousands were killed, tortured, imprisoned and disappeared. Libya has no constitution, no freedom of expression and no resemblance of the rule of law.
On the 17th of February, the Libyan people will start their march toward freedom, democracy and self-realization. In anticipation of this, Ghadafi’s regime against all international norms and laws started hacking and destroying all news and social sites of the opposition inside and outside Libya. He has been amassing his security apparatus around all major cities using all measures of intimidation including a mass round up and jailing of innocent citizens who are suspected of being pro-democracy.
We fear a bloodbath by Ghadafi’s regime. His history tells us that he has no qualms using brute force for whatever end that suits his goals and ambitions mainly to stay in power. We want to remind you that this is the same regime that massacred more than 1200 prisoners inside their cells in AboSleem prison massacre.
Similar to Tunisia and Egypt the Libyan people will march on February 17th demanding their inalienable rights to live in a free constitutional and dignified society. Ghadafi will unplug Libya from the outside world in the next few days. He already deported all major news outlets. We call on you through your representatives in Libya in embassies and consulates to observe and more importantly to accurately report the Libyan people’s march for freedom and the dictatorial regime’s response to these legitimate demands.
