Libya bulletin 1/2005
1.1 This Bulletin has been produced by the Country Information and Policy Unit, Immigration and Nationality Directorate, Home Office, to circulate a report of a fact-finding visit to Libya conducted by the Norwegian Immigration Appeals Board, the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration and the Danish Immigration Service in June 2004. The Norwegian Department of Immigration commissioned the translation into English by a professional translation company in Norway. This Bulletin does not contain any Home Office opinion or policy.
1.2 This Bulletin has been prepared for background purposes for those involved in the asylum / human rights determination process. The information it identifies is not exhaustive. It concentrates on the issues most commonly raised in asylum / human rights claims made in the United Kingdom.
1.3 The Bulletin is intended to be used by caseworkers in addition to Bulletin 1/2004 which circulated general country information about Libya and must be used in conjunction with that. The attached Norwegian/Danish report refers to a report by Amnesty International 'Libya: Time to make human rights a reality' dated 27 April 2004 which can be accessed at the following link -http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGMDE190022004?open&of=ENG-LBY Paper copies of this Bulletin and Reports have been distributed to nominated officers in Asylum Caseworking Directorate and all Presenting Officer Units.
