Letter To Prime Minister of Canada Regarding Fu'ad al-Mansouri

November 28, 2005

The Honorable Paul Martin, Prime Minister of Canada
80 Wellington Street
Ottawa, K1A 0A2

Re: The case of Fuad Al-Mansuri, a Libyan citizen, seeking political asylum in Canada

Dear Prime Minister:

The American Libyan Freedom Alliance (ALFA) is an American NGO, registered in the state of Virginia. It was founded for the promotion of democracy, human rights, justice, accountability and the rule of law, in Libya . Recently, we were contacted by several members of the Libyan exiled community in Europe and the USA, expressing concern for the life of Fuad Al-Mansuri, who is seeking political asylum in Canada. Mr. Al-Mansuri’s application for political asylum has been denied and he now faces deportation back to Libya on December 12, 2005. This case is particularly disturbing to us as it comes at the heels of Seif El Islam Gadhafi’s recent visit to Canada. . I would like remind you, Mr. Prime Minister, of a similar case, which is that of Mr. Mustafa Mohammed Krer, who was deported from Canada back to Libya in 2002, only to be executed soon after his arrival.

Although Gadhafi professes to the international community that he has been transformed from a terrorist to a peacemaker; in reality, he continues to persecute and terrorize Libyans inside and outside of Libya in the same manner he has been doing for the past 36 years. As Gadhafi offers concessions to the west, he invariably increases internal oppression, lest Libyans perceive his concessions to the west as an inherent weakening of his regime. We appeal to your government, Mr. Prime Minister, to refrain from deporting Libyans directly to Libya where they could face persecution and possible death. Our claim of the potential dangers in Libya to those deportees could be verified by looking at the reports of Amnesty International and other human rights organizations. Please feel free to contact us if you need any further information.
