The Honorable Secretary Clinton
U.S. Department of State
2201C Street NW
Washington, DC 20037
Dear Secretary Clinton,
The American Libyan Freedom Alliance was founded on 29 September 2003 in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its mission: To promote democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Libya; to disseminate information about conditions in Libya among the American public and the International community.
The world had witnessed history in the making when Egyptians staged a peaceful revolution to end thirty years of brutal dictatorship. The events in Egypt were inspired by the successful revolution in Tunisia, where a popular uprising ended an entrenched dictatorship of 23 years. The Tunisian revolution provided a source of inspiration in the Arab World, as protests calling for democracy have erupted in numerous Arab countries. Currently we are witnessing uprisings in Algeria and Yemen. Libyans are preparing to embark on similar protests on February 17.
When Gaddafi, Libyan dictator, learned of the plans, he called for meetings with tribal chiefs, and others to warn of dire consequences for all those who participate. Gaddafi emphasized that families and tribes of all participants will be punished, such a threat constitutes a violation of International Laws, which prohibits collective punishment.
Giving Gaddafi's appetite for violence and bloodshed, I am contacting you to give you an advance notice of the planned protest and potential for bloodshed by the Libyan regime. I ask you to issue an immediate, explicit warning to Gaddafi to refrain of committing any acts of violence against peaceful demonstrations.
