The Libyan-American Scholarship Fund, Unlocking Opportunity!

Asalamu Alaikum,

We would like to introduce to you the Libyan-American Scholarship Fund (LASF). Initially proposed at Amal Camp in 2007, the LASF is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the educational pursuits of Libyan-Americans. Over the last three years, with the aid of professional legal counsel, the LASF has developed the organizational, legal and financial framework to ensure that this critical community institution is built on a solid foundation. The LASF was approved by the IRS for 501(c)(3) status in April of 2010 as a public charity. The organization is tax-exempt, and all contributions made to it are tax-deductible.

Starting in April 2010, the LASF will launch its first scholarship application cycle. The Unlocking Opportunity Scholarship will be awarded to eleven (11) students based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and leadership potential. Financial need will be considered but will not disqualify any application. Of the total awards, three (3) students will receive top awards of $2,000 and eight (8) will receive awards of $500.

The application deadline is July 15, 2010. We invite all eligible persons to apply. To see the eligibility requirements and apply for the scholarship, please visit: http://libyanscholar.org/?page_id=381.

The upcoming scholarship cycle is an important opportunity to further the LASF’s organizational and financial growth and provide an occasion for community members to familiarize themselves with the organization. The LASF is designed to be transparent, responsible and most importantly, sustainable.

We are in year one, and as we all know, money does not grow on trees. It comes from hardworking people like you, who recognize the value of education and can appreciate the long term benefits of an investment in our youth. As such, we are requesting your assistance. Your generous donation would be greatly appreciated. To learn more or make a donation, please visit our website at http://www.libyanscholar.org, or contact us at info@libyanscholar.org. It is important that we are all a part of this community critical work.

Your financial and moral support is much appreciated and your questions are always welcome.

Wasalam,

LASF Officers
Abdulla Darrat
Ahmed Hnesh
Assia Amry
