A 'Khotba' For Libya

... And now. What do we see, my brethren, on our streets. Our youth are busy on the beaches, caring only for the latest styles of clothing, the latest western musical tunes, girls, cars, and electronics. Our women are losing their shame and, some, their chastity; dressing in tight pants and revealing clothing. Our young generation is rotting away! Where is the Islam? Ask yourselves this!

No. The young generation is not rotting away. What has taken place is exactly as it should be, a perfect continuation of the trend the older generations have put into motion. The Islam they're talking about is not based on any real understanding or education, but merely a continuation of the traditions of our forefathers. What is taking place now, a following of all that is ill in the West and none that is good, is only to be expected. When the older generations decided to abandon education, abandon principles, to betray their hearts, their tongues flapping only false messages. To teach their children hypocrisy, and create a society of lies and distrust, and paranoia. What does it matter if a girl is wearing a skirt? It is only a response to the demand for it by the current conditions. What does it matter if our young men waste their afternoons in clouds of riyadhi to the sounds of nickelback? What do any of these trivial things matter, if you can't even tell the simple truth; if all of you turn a blind eye to the terrible fire feeding only on the good elements of society, if you have trivialized Islam to a series of a meaningless actions and a social code while ignoring the lofty ideals? What does it matter, if thousands are awake in their graves, wandering the prison cells at night, wavering about the Aouzou strip, hanging on the noose you tied, or haunting the Tanzanian border? These trivial matters are nothing but a distraction, another lie that you believe, to convince yourselves that you have principles. Like the lies of progress: tall concrete buildings glazed in glimmering glass, and shiny bobbing bald heads, wrinkled faces and curly hair. Selling it all, chasing after paper notes printed with the face of a man who would never sell.

Indeed, none of these so called issues matter at all. Simply the next domino in the row that is our nation. The fall of which you put into place, by ignoring truth, embracing cowardice, and cultivating hypocrisy. Continue in your ignorance if you please, nothing will ever change. But certainly don't complain of these petty matters. At least, the Imams of Libya should simply stand silently on the Minbar and stare at the crowd, and then order the Iqama.

Aqimu assalat.
