Dear Sir
The recent article by Dr Sulieman Al-Faitouri (Dec. 29th) went beyond the
boundaries of normal political debate. It was a cheap personal attack on
Sheik Ben Ghalbone, a man with a long history of complete commitment to the
Libyan case. I cannot imagine why Dr Faitouri found it in himself to write
in such an inappropriate (actually disgusting) style about an honourable man
who spent the last 24 years serving the Libyan case and correcting the
damage done to its history.
It is quite reasonable to assume that the writer composed his article in an
excited and pointless support of Sayyid Emir Mohammed al-Sanousi. The
writer was gravely misinformed, does not know his client well and,
deliberately or otherwise, is determined to destroy his aspirations for
good.
I will not give the writer the satisfaction of correcting his information.
I will of course join the decent commentators who immediately wrote to
condemn the article.
I have had the pleasure and indeed the honour of knowing and accompanying
Sheik Ben Ghalbone since the mid-seventies. The writer was critically wrong
on numerous counts and his vulgar language must be rejected in the strongest
terms. This standard has no place in our political debate. It should be
rejected by all.
