Comment On Dr Barakat's Letter Of 31/07/2006
Thank you for yor response. However my reaction is of confusion. You are telling me not to mix LDS initiatives and personal ones.As far as I know those ATLS courses were via the LDS and I believe they were a cause of friction among members because of the (founding members) pick and choose policy! That is some people go to give courses in nice places without other members knowing! If you are doing some personnal work good for you but then you should not advertise it on the LDS website! like the last year conference fiasco, one day it is va LDS and an other day it is not!
A fact is that Libyan doctors do not want to be linked with the regime! The same regime that is calling us through their leader Traitors only few days ago! The same leader that you are sucking up to his daughter! He is calling us Traitors because we left his Garden of Eden, because we went to look for training and work mainly because of the failure of his regime! He did not discriminate between those who were sponsored by the state and those who were self sponsored! That is his nature, unstable, hypocrite and evil; no one is immune from his harm!
I have no doubt in my mind that there is some good in your intentions, but what comes across to us is an attention seeking personality who realised that he is an anonymous consultant in he UK and wants a stage where he can satisfy his ego while keeping the advantages of living in the UK! Trying to dissocate yourself from the LDS is difficult because you are a member of the council (and a founder member who should be a permanent member of the council eh!). The damage to its reputation seems beyond repair! With all respect to its members who are all esteemed friends and colleagues! The fact remains that it has been irreparably linked to the regime whether it is true or not! Go back to last year conference in Tripoli and LDS members faces were all over the regime media, read the final statement as well as the compulsory letter to the regime leader! you will tell me that the conference has nothing to do with the LDS but this is not what is perceived by the local & overseas doctors as well as lay people, for a simple reason it has been heavily advertised through the LDS website.
The LDS is supposed to be non political professional society but the regime will try to drag it into its circle of influence and I believe it succeeded! You were presented as the chairman of the LDS in the conference and therefore the implication was that all the sucking up was agreed upon by the LDS members! You cannot imagine the disheartening that our fellow citizens must have felt when they saw well off professionals living in the UK cosying up to the regime symbols! and look what is the result YOU and all of us working abroad are accused of being TRAITORS! at least I did not suck up to anybody, and I hope you learned your lesson!
