Libya Is In The Eye Of The Storm|
The tragic events in Iraq are a tragic example of what we might soon be witnessing in Libya, as the United States continues to threaten to punish Libya in similar manner. Libyans, inside and outside of Libya, should take the threats very seriously if we are to avoid a recurrence of Iraq's tragedy. Libyans everywhere have to mobilize, and engage in dialogue designed to save Libya from an impending catastrophe.
Lately, there has been some constructive proposals and suggestions; they should be continued and seriously debated. Let's exercise seriousness of purpose and refrain from the name-calling and hurtful words. Let's rise to the level of the crisis threatening our homeland, friends, and families. Libyan-Americans have a special responsibility to prevent hostilities between our land of origin and land of domicile. We should lobby our congressmen, senators to act to prevent hostilities against Libya. We should also send a clear message to the Libyan government, urging a major change of past behaviors, and stressing the need to address the legitimate concerns of Libyan citizens. I urge all Libyan-Americans to contact their political representatives to educate them and to inform them of our concerns and expectations. Familiarizing our political representatives of our concerns will facilitate future action and ensure success of our plans.
