Muhammad al-Zubaidi: Condolences And Appeal

Muhammad Massaud Annakkaa Al-Zubaidi, an 85-year-old Libyan man, died July 2002 in Musrata, his new forced exile town. He was evicted with his family from Baniwalid after attempted coup in October 1993. He is the father of Abdullah Muhammad Masaud, who disappeared in 1982, during his final examination, at the school of law in the beloved city of Benghazi. The ruling Qaddhafi's clan accused him of leading the Islamic Liberation Party. The Amnesty International feared that he was murdered, in its report about Libya in 1998.

Alhaj Muhammad Masaud is the uncle of the late Saad Musbah Al-Zubaidi who was murdered with others on Jan 2nd, 1997. The Gaddhaf's agents led by Mohammad Al-Tarouq, refused his burial in his family cemetery in Baniwalid, and forced his family to bury him in an other site in the same city. There is a lot of pressure form the Gaddhafi's agents on the local population and asked them to dig his grave and throw his remains out or they will face the consequences.

I appeal to the international and Libyan human rights organizations to intervene and ask Gaddhafi's family to stop this action and to leave this old man rest in peace.

May Allah bless his soul and look after his family and ours, ameen.

Saleh Mansour
