Al-Amal Camp 2002|
Al-Amal Annual Camp
Eastern United States
August 23-25, 2002
Alhamdulillah, The Libyan Social Camp this year was also a great success. It was a gathering of families that enjoyed the company of each other in a relaxed mood enhanced by good weather, high spirits, and humor. Most participants came from eastern United States.
As always, the objective of the camp was to foster and strengthen bonding and the sense of identity and pride amongst the Libyan community, especially amongst our youth. To that extent, we have the feeling that this was achieved and then some. An atmosphere of friendship and joy was noticeable as participants engaged in playing numerous sports. These included football, volley ball, basket ball, boating, and swimming. Families took to the lake and even babies were seen held by their parents in canoes or being dipped in the refreshing, shallow water. Libyans sat at the camp fire chatting, joking, and enjoying light meals and drinks. Our youth showed maturity and our young ladies appeared dignified and respectful.
The Libyan community should be proud of its heritage and its proven ability to contribute admirably on all levels to the well being of local communities as well as the community at large. Libyans in this country include professionals of the highest caliber and can be found in universities as professors, in the industry as engineers, in the hospitals as physicians and consultants, and as store managers and owners, artists, and hard-working individuals throughout the USA.
The organizing Committee wishes to warmly thank all of those who contributed to the success of our camp. A special note of appreciation and gratitude is extended to the sisters who prepared for our gathering some of most delicious meals of couscous, bazeen, and s'finz.
We wish you all great success and prosperity.
