Just To Tell You What I Saw

I have been a reader of this good page for some time, and I had the chance to send a letter once or twice before. I would like to send this letter to tell you about my experience of my beloved Libya. I am living outside Libya, and have been for too many years to even want to remember, but last year I went for a visit, I was horrified at what I saw. I saw a country, which is supposed to be an oil rich country, which looks like the poorest country in Africa. There are many young men without work, it is virtually impossible to get married because of the lack of housing, leave alone the lack of money.

Despite all of this, people try and carry on with their lives, and pretend to survive. But you know what, I think many people will not like what I am about to say, don't get me wrong, I love my country, and my people, but I think they are in the state they are in because they are not following the path of Allah. I know it is easy for me to say this, and I really didn't even want to believe it, but they are far away from the straight path of Allah. They are Muslims, but Islam didn't touch their lives. Islam means nothing to many people. oh! they go to the mosque and everything, but only to perform certain acts and once they are out they carry on with their normal lives.

I visited many people, and in those gatherings, you don't hear anyone giving any brotherly advice or talk about Islam or what a good Muslim should be like, etc. Many people, I was told, took loans from banks with interest. Halal and Haram means very little in many people's lives over there. I could carry on but my heart is breaking just writing these things.

We have to remember that we have to change, and the people have to change and come closer to Allah before things start to get better. I pray to Allah and hope things will get better soon, as things simply can't get any worse.

Finally, I would like to ask you all to pray for the brothers who were sentenced recently, as I personally knew Dr Salem, and he was the one that taught me Tajweed many years back, may Allah be with them and help their families in their difficult times.

I pray every day and cry very much when I remember the state my country is in now, and ask Allah (SWT) to forgive our sins and make our country prosper and make its people come closer to Allah, and come back to their DEEN, Amin.

Abnziad
