To: The Government of Sweden
I wish to offer my sincere gratitude for the decision under taken by the Swedish government to halt all deportations to Libya. It is extremely heartening to know that Swedish officials understand the duplicitous of the Gaddhafi regime. Sweden now knows that the “guarantees” by the Libyan regime of safety and freedom for returning asylum seekers ring hollow and ghastly false. An unfortunate example is that of Mr. Mohammed Adel Abu Ali who was deported to Libya and then killed by the Gaddhafi regime. While I am extremely grateful that the deportations have been halted, there is now another hurdle that must be crossed. In the name of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, I ask that permanent asylum be granted to all Libyan asylum seekers, and that they receive permanent residence status. The Swedish people enjoy the freedom and liberty that is due to all human beings. Sweden has long understood that the best society is a fair society. The Libyan asylum seekers deserve to live in a free and just society, and Sweden is just the place to offer them that opportunity. All people are born with inaliable rights; freedom and liberty are two of those rights. I thank you for your time, and hope that you consider this plea, as it will be further proof that Sweden stands for Human Rights.
